SCANTILY clad animal rights campaigners crouched in cages outside the Burberry store in Manchester in protest at the exclusive label’s use of fur.

The six women members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals PETA painted their bodies to look like white rabbits and held heart shaped signs reading: “Love us, don’t wear us.”

They are calling on Burberry to establish an anti fur policy like top fashion designers Stella McCartney, Polo Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.

Burberry insists that it would not use fur if there were fears over animal treatment.

PETA launched the campaign at the London Regent Street store , where five members of the pressure group were arrested after smearing fake blood on a window of the shop.

Campaigns manager Anita Singh said: ” With so many stylish comfortable alternatives to fur, Burberry is supporting one of the most hideous industries on the planet.”

A Burberry spokesman said: “There will be occasions when the use of fur will be considered important to the design and aesthetics of the product. Then we will continue to use fur. However we will not use it if there is a serious concern that the fur has been obtained by the unacceptable treatment of animals concerned.”
