The True Value hardware store at Country Fair Shopping Center is for sale.
Arlayne and Bob Cooper of Mahomet have owned Round Barn True Value for 37 years.
The couple operated the hardware store at 2010 Round Barn Road, C, until 2014.
“True Value has been good to us over the years,” Arlayne Cooper said.
When foot traffic began to decrease following the closure of the nearby Jerry’s IGA, the Coopers moved their store north to 245 S. Mattis Ave., C
“I like the location, but the location hasn’t been good to us,” Arlayne Cooper said. “When we moved over here, people didn’t find us. Then Ace opened their two stores,
and that kinda hurt, too.”
The Coopers said they decided to sell the store because it was time for them to retire.
“We had our children working with us, and they both have other jobs now,” she said. “We’re ready to get out, and we’re just going to retire.”
Arlayne Cooper said the store has nine employees.
The couple put the store up for sale on June 7.
“We have had several inquiries already,” she said.
A custom furniture and cabinet business has moved from Monticello to Champaign.
After 27 years at 1078 Bucks Pond Road in Monticello, Madden Creek Woodworking has headed east to a new shop at 2215 County Road 675 E in Champaign.
Madden Creek Woodworking produced custom furniture and customer kitchen and bath cabinetry.
Owner Robert Clapper said he opted for the new location to be closer to his customers in Champaign Urbana.
“The bulk of my clientele was in the Champaign area, so it made sense,” Clapper said.
In addition to the custom furniture and cabinets, Clapper also does design work.
“I don’t do a lot of work with new construction,” said Clapper. “It is primarily remodeling and renovation work.”
