polo ralp lauren Elmwood Avenue tailor to expand
An Elmwood Avenue clothier is increasing its wardrobe.
Bureau, a men’s tailor on Elmwood Avenue, will expand its retail space and create a line of ready to wear clothing for sale in the shop. Until now, the store had only designed and created made to measure custom clothing.
Co owner and managing director Jon Eisenberg said the idea came after customers began asking where to shop for more casual pieces to wear with tailor made garments.
“While we do a lot of business and wedding type suiting, it’s always smart to have classic pieces like knit popovers, wool cardigans and other casual options to break up and extend the life of a suit throughout the week,” he said.
The new off the rack clothing line will include dress shirts, sport jackets, sweaters, T shirts and accessories such as suspenders, pocket squares and ties. It will be designed by co owner and creative director Joseph Stocker, and made from British, Italian and Japanese fabrics. Bureau will work with local and international tailors and manufacturers with the majority of items made in the United States, Netherlands and China.
The outsourced manufacturing allows the company to offer a wide array of well fitting, classic garments with the same attention to detail as its custom options, but at more attainable price points, said Eisenberg. Prices will range from $85 to $150 for off the rack dress shirts (custom shirts tend to range from $115 to $200), sport coats will start at $450 (custom coats range from $600 to $850) and wool and cashmere car coats will cost $500 to $600 (as opposed to custom car coats, which top out at $1,000).
Bureau’s line will also include a selection of knits which will range in price from $75 to $175. More casual pieces will range from $45 to $65.
The store is also working on an online portal that will allow existing customers to design and customize ready to wear clothing options from home using personal measurements on file. That is expected to be operational by spring.
Bureau will expand south, pushing into the space next door at 830 Elmwood Ave., more than tripling the shop’s size. The expanded space and new clothing line are expected to debut by Nov. 1.
