Monday at SwedishAmerican Hospital, making her the first baby of 2018 born in Rockford.
After all the worrying, all was well.
“I just feel lucky and thankful everything went so smoothly,” the new mother said.
Felicity is the couple’s first child a healthy 8 pound, 2 ounce girl. She arrived by cesarean section a couple days sooner than expected, and just 5 1/2 hours after Pietrzak Slazakowski went into labor.
Pietrzak Slazakowski said she will never forget the first time she laid eyes on her daughter.
“They had the curtain up and the doctor held her over it, and I saw her little head full of dark hair,” said. “You know instantly you just love her. They had to clean her up, and I was waiting and waiting, and it felt like an eternity before I got to see her again. It was wonderful. It was very emotional.”
Pietrzak Slazakowski is a special education teacher at the Walter Lawson Children’s Home in Loves Park. Slazakowski works at the Belvidere Chrysler Assembly Plant.
A steady stream of sisters, brothers and grandparents who live in the Marengo and Delavan, Wisconsin, areas and welcomed Felicity into the family.
It was the third year in a row that SwedishAmerican delivered Rockford’s baby of the year. Coming nearly nine hours after midnight, the couple hadn’t expected it to be possible.
The couple raved about the staff who put them at ease during the delivery. SwedishAmerican housekeeper Nancy Thompson put together a large muslin lined basket filled with diapers, clothes and assorted items as a gift for the new year’s first baby and her family.
“You worry how things are going to go,” said. “Then you see her, and she is healthy and beautiful, and you realize she is yours.”li > a”.
