LEOMINSTER A Fitchburg man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attempting to conceal neckties and socks at TJ Maxx at Water Tower Plaza.
According to the police report, Brandon Shank, 28, of 87 Birch St. Passway in Fitchburg, placed the neckties in his front pant pocket and two packages of socks down the front of his pants. He walked past all points of sale and made no attempts to purchase the items. A member of loss prevention stopped him on the sidewalk and identified herself. Shank was cooperative and returned to the store to give back the merchandise.
According to the report, when police arrived and spoke with him, dispatch said Shank had an active arrest warrant. The report did not identify what it was for.
Shank was arraigned in Leominster District Court Thursday and is charged with shoplifting by concealing merchandise.
Fitchburg man charged in Market Basket theft
LEOMINSTER A Fitchburg man was arrested Thursday after allegedly trying to steal a USB wall charger, valued at $4.99, from a Market Basket at 71 Sack Blvd.
According to the police report, a store employee spotted Andrew Rosario, 22,
of 2 Myrtle Ave. in Fitchburg, taking the item off a shelf and placing it in his pocket. The employee then alerted the store manager, who confronted Rosario outside of the store and asked him about the item. The manager advised Rosario to return to the store, which he reluctantly did. When the manager told him that the police had been called, Rosario fled on foot, leaving his backpack behind.
Police conducted a motor vehicle stop of a nearby MART bus. Earlier, a store employee had seen Rosario get on a bus; police received this information and kept an eye out.
Police said there was a man on the bus who fit Rosario’s description. Rosario attempted to flee the bus but police prevented him from doing so, the report said.
According to the report, Rosario admitted that he stole the merchandise. He was placed under arrest.
Rosario had two prior guilty shopliftings, the report said. He was arraigned in Leominster District Court Thursday and is charged with his third offense of shoplifting by asportation.
